About Me

This summer Rosie, Camillo, Joss and I have decided to dedicate just over 2 weeks of our summer holidays to attempting the John o Groats to Lands End bike ride in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. Any donations or support for this rather mad adventure would be much appreciated, and keep an eye on the blog for a daily update on saddle sores and the like.....wish us luck!

. "No rest for the wicked"

Day 4
“No rest for the wicked”
Route:  Street to Ross-on-Wye
Distance: 72 miles
Time: 5hours 17mins
Top Speed: 42MPH

So according to fellow cyclists, the ‘cycle legs’ are supposed to kick in by day four.  I’m not sure any of us felt that way 10 miles into our ride today as we sped through Glastonbury on our way to Bristol. We had left Dad to pack away the van in Street and headed off in good time; keen to get going as we had the incentive of a rest day at the Whites tomorrow to spur us on. This thought pretty much got us through the day and the forty seven miles to the Severn Bridge tackled in the morning.  We had another glamorous lunch pit stop in the car park of the Homebase in Chepstow (where I got a free cup of tea from the car park burger van with the good old ‘charity bike ride line) before heading off for the last 27 miles to Ross-on-Wye where we were greeted by the kindly Whites and whisked back to their beautiful house in Much Marcle. Our afternoon cycle took us along the Wye valley past the famous Tintern Abbey and was by far the nicest 17 miles of the trip so far (mainly due to the lack of hills). Rosie had cooked up a delicious shepherds pie for us all, which Camillo only just managed to eat before retiring to bed at about 9  swiftly followed by Joss and me. Rest day tomorrow, and it could not be more welcome – only another  10 days to go.
