About Me

This summer Rosie, Camillo, Joss and I have decided to dedicate just over 2 weeks of our summer holidays to attempting the John o Groats to Lands End bike ride in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. Any donations or support for this rather mad adventure would be much appreciated, and keep an eye on the blog for a daily update on saddle sores and the like.....wish us luck!

No Pain, no gain

Day  11

Route – New Lanark to Stirling
Distance: 44 miles

Today’s short blog reflects the short trip, 44 miles seems far too easy for us well-worn Lejog riders. Not sure Lucy feels the same way, even with the aid of the trusty udder cream her backside has taken a beating. I feel she may even be regretting her snap decision to come and offer moral support and girl time to her eldest sister, particularly as she ascended a fairly steep and long hill on the way to Stirling. Still, one more day in the saddle and then she never need set eyes on a bike again (I have yet to break the news that tomorrow is a eighty mile day).  The ankle has been firmly strapped with gaffa tape, tubi grips, neoprene wraps, and seems to be holding up okay.  Four more days of serious cycling, so it will just have to be fine – I haven’t come this far to stop now! Whilst we managed to  stick together on the ride today, the same can’t be said of the teams evening itineraries’. Joss has been rescued by a kindly friend and given a night of Eccles/La Manna company, Camillo has headed off to consume his body weight (in fact, make that the cumulative weight of the team, plus Jerry…and the van) in beer with Jay and Whit, and has informed us that he will make his own way to Glen Coe tomorrow. We shall see how that turns out, especially given he has already decided that he will not be back from his riotous night in time for the Hostel curfew, I suggested the bike shed as an alternative – he didn’t seem keen. Team Eccles are heading off to find food/amusement in the bright city lights of Stirling. 80 miles tomorrow into the Glens of Scotland, then we are almost home and dry.
